Rahul Gandhi in Egypt; meets Arab League chief Amr Musa

Cairo, Nov 5: On a visit to Egypt, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has met Arab League chief Amr Musa and discussed the current political situation in the Middle East and South Asia, including Indo-Pak ties. Rahul met Amr Musa yesterday and the two leaders discussed the recent developments and peace talks in Palestine and Israel, the Obama administration's stand in this respect and the pressure Israel is exerting to evade the two-state solution, a statement issued by the Arab League said. The Congress MP briefed Musa on the Indian expertise in realising development, combating poverty, spreading education and improving health services, it said. The League, a 22-member body consists of Arab states, was formed in 1946 to draw closer relations between member states and coordinate collaboration between them to safeguards their independence and sovereignty. Petition against Rahul Gandhi

Kochi, Nov 3: A petition seeking sanction for initiating contempt of court proceedings against AICC General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has been filed before the Advocate General here today. The petition filed by C Krishnakumar, president of BJP Palakkad Unit, also sought to initiate contempt proceedings against the Principals of Mar Ivanios College, Thiruvananthapuram, Maharaja' College, Ernakulam and Farooq College, Kozhikode. The petitioner alleged Mr Gandhi, on his visit to the state on October seven, interacted with students of the three colleges. Though the interactions were termed non-political, the subsequent events proved Mr Gandhi's intention was to ask the students to join the Students' Wing of the Congress Party. The petitioner alleged this was in total violation of the Kerala High Court decision banning political activity in educational institutions. The petitioner also produced news items published in two dailies to the AG. The petition would be considered lat
