CHANDIGARH: Two students of Panjab University who were scheduled to meet Rahul Gandhi on Thursday could not enjoy a formal chat with the young leader, who was on an election tour. But all was not lost for the youngsters as they ended up having an hour-long discussion with human resource development minister Kapil Sibal at his office in New Delhi. Shivani Negi of School of Communication Studies and Barindrer Dhillon, a law student, were invited by Rahul for a meeting over the issue of PU central status. The two had brought up the matter with the AICC general secretary during a campus interaction. On Thursday, six more students, including president of PU Campus Students’ Council Amit Bhatia, had accompanied the two. ‘‘We met the HRD minister and tabled all the points in front of him. We explained how central status could prove helpful for the varsity,’’ said Dhillon.
Rahul Gandhi is an Indian politician who has played a prominent role in the Indian National Congress (INC), one of the major political parties in India.
