Rahul Gandhi joins minister in raid on food godown

Congressgeneral secretaryRahul Gandhiaccompanied Union Minister of State for Rural Development Pradeep Jain for a raid on a food godown in Jhansi district ofUttar Pradeshon Monday evening.

Gandhi, who has taken on the Mayawati government on several occasions, has earlier made such visits as a regular drill. His presence at the godown took food department officials by surprise. In fact, such was the impact that they locked their offices and fled.

The Gandhi scion spent the night in Medhki village of the district. He had dinner at a villager's house, held a village meeting and slept in a school building.

TUMKUR: AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi made a strong pitch for women's empowerment at his rally on Sunday, and said it's the only way for the country to become a superpower. Addressing a women's rally at Tumkur, 70km from Bangalore, Rahul said the country today was half a superpower because women had not been given equal status. "India will not become a superpower if women aren't given opportunities. We need equal representation for women at all levels to make them empowered," he told a mammoth gathering.
